Ludmila Ulitskaya

It's International Women's Day.

It's a good occasion to suggest the works of Ludmila Ulitskaya, who was awarded the Prix Simone de Beauvoir pour la liberte des femmes this year.

Above link to website of Ulitskaya's literary agent, contains helpful information.

Ulitskaya's novel Daniel Stein, Interpreter (The Overlook Press, 2011), originally published in 2006 Moscow is forthcoming.

Other works available in English translation:
A Funeral Party (Schocken, 2002)
Medea and Her Children (Schocken, 2004)
Sonechka: A Novella and Stories (Schocken, 2005)
Life Stories: Original Works by Russian Writers (Russian Information Services, 2009)

Prix Simone de Beauvoir pour la liberte des femmes was initiated by Julia Kristeva, who also chairs its committee.  Kristeva happens to be one of my favorite contemporary thinkers.
